Fantasy sports platform Sorare is making headlines once again, as it transitions from Ethereum to Solana while maintaining confidence in Ethereum’s long-term potential. CEO Nicolas Julia has described the move as an “upgrade,” emphasizing scalability, user experience, and consumer-focused growth as the driving factors behind this strategic shift.

Sorare Migrates From Ethereum to Solana for Scalability

After six years on Ethereum, Sorare announced last week that it will migrate its ecosystem to Solana, a blockchain known for high-speed transactions and low fees. The platform will transfer over 10 sports games and their associated trading cards to Solana by the end of the month.

Julia explained that the decision was not a rejection of Ethereum but rather a recognition of Solana’s growing strengths. “It’s not a replacement, it’s an upgrade,” he said. Sorare believes Solana’s infrastructure aligns better with the platform’s need for scalability and its large base of active players.

Solana has quickly become a dominant chain in the fantasy sports and gaming vertical, leading in daily active addresses, total value locked (TVL), and developer activity. While it is often criticized for being more centralized than Ethereum, Julia noted that Solana has focused on security and performance — two crucial aspects for a high-volume gaming platform like Sorare.

Solana’s Strengths: A Perfect Match for Sorare’s Vision

Julia emphasized that Solana’s scalability gives Sorare the ability to handle millions of transactions seamlessly. As Sorare continues to expand across football, basketball, and baseball, the network’s high throughput becomes increasingly important.

“[Solana’s] growing adoption shows that this bet was the right one,” Julia said, pointing out that the network’s success since its 2020 launch underscores its resilience.

The Sorare CEO also highlighted Solana’s expanding ecosystem and developer community, both of which have matured significantly since the chain’s early days. The migration is expected to enable faster gameplay, lower transaction costs, and an overall smoother user experience.

Still Confident in Ethereum’s Long-Term Role

Despite migrating to Solana, Sorare remains bullish on Ethereum. Julia reiterated the company’s commitment to the Ethereum ecosystem through continued integration with the Base network, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution.

Sorare will continue supporting ETH deposits and maintain partnerships within the Ethereum ecosystem. “We remain very bullish on it,” Julia said, noting that Ethereum’s robust developer base and decentralized structure make it an indispensable part of the blockchain landscape.

This dual-chain approach suggests that Sorare is moving toward a multichain strategy, leveraging the strengths of both Solana and Ethereum to reach a wider user base.

Sorare’s Market Position and Industry Context

Founded in 2018, Sorare has grown into one of the world’s leading fantasy sports platforms with over 5 million users. In 2021, it achieved a valuation of $4.3 billion, backed by top investors and major sports partnerships.

Sorare enables users to buy, sell, and trade officially licensed digital player cards as NFTs, creating fantasy teams that compete based on real-world player performance.

However, the NFT market downturn has affected the platform’s token economy. According to DappRadar, the floor price of Sorare NFTs has fallen from a peak of $91.25 in April 2022 to just $2.21 as of October 2025. Despite this, daily sales volume remains consistent, ranging between 5,000 and 30,000 transactions per day — showing steady engagement from the community.

The broader sports crypto market has also cooled, with a total market cap of around $1.17 billion, down sharply from its peak during the 2021 bull cycle.

Expanding Beyond Solana: A Multichain Future

Julia revealed that Sorare is exploring other high-performance blockchains like Sui and Aptos, aiming to scale its marketplace further. “We’ve considered many options and will continue to keep a close eye on the evolution of high-performance ecosystems,” he said.

The platform also plans to integrate LayerZero for seamless cross-chain payments between Solana and Base, paving the way for a more chain-agnostic ecosystem. This multichain strategy is expected to enhance liquidity and user accessibility while minimizing network limitations.

Addressing Concerns About Solana’s Network Stability

When asked about Solana’s history of network outages, Julia expressed confidence in the blockchain’s progress. He acknowledged that while network interruptions have occurred in the past, the frequency and duration of such issues have significantly decreased.

“We’ve been more than reassured by the quality of Solana’s technology, the team behind it, and the network’s recent track record of stability,” Julia said. He also noted that Sorare’s team has become adept at managing challenges that come with evolving blockchain infrastructures.

Conclusion: A Strategic “Upgrade,” Not an Exit

Sorare’s shift from Ethereum to Solana represents a strategic evolution, not an abandonment. The company is betting on Solana’s scalability and consumer-centric design to deliver faster, smoother gameplay — while still recognizing Ethereum’s dominance in innovation and decentralization.

By adopting a multichain strategy, Sorare aims to balance speed, cost, and security — a move that may well position it as a leader in the next generation of blockchain-based fantasy sports.
